I have been an Art Teacher for 16 years. 14 of those have been at a Title 1 Elementary School. I have a minimal budget and can’t afford ‘special’ materials that many of the other schools in my County can. I have to operate with the basics. Because of this, I have to be very creative so the projects I teach are visually exciting. The examples that I show here are my own lessons. I am always on the lookout for new ideas. I assume many other Art Teachers are too.
I use crayons, markers, construction paper, tempera cakes, color pencils and watercolor. Each grade level also has one clay project. I do a lot of projects from other cultures or a period in history. I make my own visual handouts using images from the internet. I also incorporate power points and video streaming in my lesson intro.
